Graham Nash, Michael Stipe among artists contributing to Chelsea Manning benefit album
Hugs for Chelsea includes Nash's song "Almost Gone," which the folk-rock legend co-wrote with Crosby, Stills & Nash touring keyboardist James Raymond about Manning in 2011.
The 32-track album also features songs by frequent Bruce Springsteen collaborator Tom Morello's acoustic solo project The Nightwatchman, founding Sonic Youth singer/guitarist Thurston Moore and a variety of others artists. Additionally, R.E.M.'s Michael Stipe provides a 30-second spoken-word intro to the album.
In 2013, Manning was convicted and sentenced to 35 years in prison for releasing classified and sensitive military documents to WikiLeaks. Her sentence was commuted earlier this year by former President Barack Obama just three days before he left office.
The album can be purchased at HugsforChelsea.BandCamp.com for $25. All funds will go directly to Manning to help her transition to post-prison life.
